Eating Healthier At Work
One of the hardest parts of eating healthy food is all the time and planning it takes. Most people can do pretty well at home, when they have control over what is in their fridge and what’s in the pantry. But then they head into work and are surrounded by processed foods and sugary snacks. The reality is, you have to eat healthy lunches at work to truly see any benefit from changing your diet. So it’s going to take a little time and some extra planning, but it’s worth it. Whether you’re trying to lose weight or just be healthier in general, bringing your own healthy food to work is well worth the effort.
Bring Your Own Food
Every weekend, set aside some time to plan your work lunches for the week. You can use Pinterest or healthy eating blogs to find budget friendly recipes for healthy lunches for work. The key is to keep it simple. If you’re going to prepare lunches ahead of time, make sure that all the ingredients will still be fresh and edible by the time you’re ready to eat. Don’t make complicated recipes for every lunch of the week. Stick to classic but delicious dishes like salads, sandwiches, wraps, meat with rice and vegetables, etc.
Take A Stand
If your workplace doesn’t have a corporate wellness program, talk to management about it. Your motivation to eat healthy lunches at work could lead to a company-wide reform in diet and nutrition. If your workplace does have a corporate wellness program, then see how you can help change the food around the office. Ask for food trucks to be allowed to park in the parking lot once a week, but only food trucks with fresh and healthy food would be considered. Suggest that vending machines be restocked with items that are less processed and less sugary.
