Keep Calm With These Stress Management Tips At Work
In this day and age, stress just seems to be a part of life.
Everyone feels overwhelmed and busy all the time, and our to-do lists never seem to get any shorter. With more than a third of Americans reporting chronic work-related stress, we are losing billions of dollars to a lack of productivity and stress related medical bills…not to mention how it affects our quality of life. That’s why it’s more important than ever to practice stress management tips at work as part of our healthy lifestyle.
How To Be Less Stressed at Work:
- Just Breathe: Making meditation a regular part of your life can really help relieve office stress, and stress in general. People who practice consistent meditation also tend to have lower blood pressure. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to calm down, take five minutes, or even 60 seconds, to close your eyes and simply breathe.
- Say “No.”: It’s ok to say to simply say, “no,” when you are over-committed. Be polite, but firm, and explain that taking on another project will cause the rest of your work to suffer. Making sure to never “over-book” yourself is a huge part of workplace stress management. Negotiate priorities with your boss – maybe you put another project on hold for awhile if you take on a new one.
- Get Your Sleep: Work related stress can seem intensified if your mind and body are groggy from too little sleep. You will also feel more overwhelmed if you are tired. Getting a good night’s sleep is critical to rejuvenating your body and mind. In the same way, eating well – low sugar, high protein – will increase your energy and help destress your system.
