Perhaps you think that eating healthy means tamari-marinated tofu atop a bed of amaranth greens and broccoli sprouts.  While we certainly applaud those that have the desire, time and willpower for that, for most of us, healthy eating needs to be simple and tasty in order to actually keep us coming back.

Here are some of our top healthy workplace snacks that are easy, transportable and tasty!

Healthy eating for lunch to work. Food in the office

Veggies and Hummus

Certainly a classic, hummus has experienced a makeover of sorts in the past 10 years with bold new flavors: spicy garlic, roasted red pepper, spinach, and artichoke.  There’s sure to be a flavor that you can enjoy!  Wash and cut veggies on the weekend and have them packed in individual servings for an easy grab-n-go snack on busy work days.

String Cheese

Low-fat mozzarella cheese provides that little bit of luxury, while still keeping the calories at a minimum.  Cheese is packed with protein and calcium, an added benefit for healthy teeth!  We suggest finding an organic brand to ensure a more natural product.

Half an Avocado

This one may be a bit unconventional to you, but try a sliced avocado with a few simple toppings, and you may be convinced!  Slice the avocado right in the rind, squeeze with a lime wedge, and sprinkle with a dash of sea salt. Enjoy the good fats and the high fiber content of an avocado, not to mention that wonderful flavor!

Nitrate-Free Turkey with Apple Slices

Pick up some nitrate-free turkey breast and wrap around apple slices for a filling and refreshing mid-afternoon snack.

Kale Chips

Crunchy, salty and healthy, kale chips have it all!  Although quite pricey in the store, kale chips can easily be made at home and brought into work for some healthy snacks for the work desk.  Follow this simple recipe for great results!

Don’t worry, you’re not actually making a salad.  Layer sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, and basil leaves, and top that with a sprinkle of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and sea salt.  Good fats, protein, and antioxidants from the tomatoes make this one a healthy on the go snack!

Made up beforehand, boiled eggs are be one of the easiest healthy snacks on the go.  With only 70 calories and 5 to 6 grams of protein, eggs are great for stabilizing blood sugar and helping muscles burn fat.
